Who we are

“We” right now is just me, David Hernandez. I started this website (https://www.americancyanide.com) because I like to write, and I love practicing my First Amendment right to say just about anything I darn well please. Since apparently some unscrupulous a-holes online have abused the trust of the people, it seems it is now a requirement to have a privacy policy to reassure namby-pamby ninnies that their private information will not be used in an untoward manner. While some websites have a team of lawyers to write up some very long (purposefully excruciatingly long) privacy policies—with the express purpose of discouraging one from reading them, I am sure—, I do not. It’s just me. So I am going to make my privacy policy as simple as possible. Chances are you still won’t read it, but that’s on you if you don’t.

Definitions

“We,” as I said means, me. Eventually it might mean more than me, but for now, “we,” “our/ours” and “us” refers to I, my/mine and me, respectively. As for you, “you” and “your/yours” means the person (live human being) reading this document and any other pages at American Cyanide; heretofore to be referred to as “site” or “website.” “Visitor(s)” refers collectively to you and others who come to this site to read whatever it is I’ve posted; this means when you see the words “visitor” or “visitors,” that this includes “you,” too.

Outside of the United States

If you are visiting this site from outside of the United States and expect us to “obey” whatever crap rules/laws your country has on the use of speech, we strongly suggest you go to another site. I live in the United States, my host’s servers are in the United States, my target audience are the People of the United States. We are not interested in whatever silly controls on speech other tyrannical governments believe they can impose on their citizens. If you are going to get all offended and start crying about things written on this site, then that’s on you. You should have seen a landing page explaining this to you already. The way we see it, our website is our own piece of virtual real estate; it is our “home” online. I’m not putting my Bible in the closet just because you are an atheist, you feel me? So, if you are going to report us to your idiotic state goons because we hurt your little feelings, we kindly invite you to suck it! Otherwise, welcome, and enjoy your stay.

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comments form (name and email address), and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

Right now, you can’t, but if you somehow manage to upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name and email address in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information (NOT your password, duh!) and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

Authors/Editors: If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Reasonable efforts will be made by us to ensure our code, and that of plugins we may use, utilize cookies effectively and ethically. For more information about cookies, you can check out the Mozilla developer’s site here.

Embedded content and links from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Examples of embedded content would be videos hosted by Rumble, or posts from Truth Social and other social media sites. This type of content may leave cookies as well for their own purposes. If you want to know what their privacy policies are, you should visit their respective websites.

Articles may also include links to external websites, usually for sourcing purposes. An example might be the link to the Mozilla article about cookies in the “Cookies” section of this very page. We are not responsible for any bad experience you may have with that external site should you choose to click on the links, and linking to an external site is not to be taken as an endorsement of, nor agreement with, that site or its content. With that being said, we will not be linking to any “dangerous” websites (i.e. “work from home” sites); at least, not on purpose.

Who we share your data with

If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.

Your information will not be sold, shared, disclosed, etc. to any third party by us, unless a) we are using a plugin that may need it (like Gravatar); b) we are served with a valid subpoena/warrant by legitimate law enforcement agencies to provide them with such information; or c) we suspect a law has been broken or the security of our site has been breached, at which point we will contact the appropriate law enforcement agency. We will make an effort to verify the validity of any subpoenas/warrants before complying with them, but, as we’ve stated, at this time we do not have a team of lawyers to help us out with that.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where we send your data

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service. There may also be plugins we use on this site to moderate content, specifically on comments. Information you send is transmitted thru your ISP and our web host, and each has their own privacy policies. For our host, you can click here to read their policy. You will need to check with your ISP to see theirs.

In the event that a comment is in violation of US law (i.e. threats to commit violence), the comment will be removed from the site and sent to the appropriate authorities for investigation. The information will include the name, email address, and IP address of the user to aid law enforcement. The comment will also be removed if it is found to be “spammy.” The IP address will also be provided to our web host to block it from accessing our website again.

We will also be checking your IP address for purposes of determining from what country you are viewing our site. Check out our ToS for details.

That’s it! Just a few loose ends…

Wow, you seriously read through all that? Impressive. Thank you for taking the time. As you can see, we’re pretty straight forward. Don’t be a law-breaking or spamming a-hole on our site, and we’ll get along just fine. Keep in mind, we reserve the right to change this privacy policy at any time we want, and to do so without notifying you, since, you know, it is OUR website and we do not need YOUR permission to change our policies.

God bless you, and God bless America!
